Reveal, Rebel, and Rejoice were based on my first life-size wall painting called Faith, inspired by Three Methods for Working With Chaos by Faith XLVII, a breathtaking piece of art that we ought to learn from.

These images were produced as prints to fundraise for victims of the re-ignition of conflicts in Gaza in January 2024. Downloadable copies are on sale and prints may be ordered here.

Background: This trinity features eight rays and bands that converge behind each horse, symbolizing the Noble Eightfold Path. Buddhist insights have led me to many a transformation through artistic expression and I am certain that they can be a spring of resilience for many people in these turbulent times.

Faith, the painting, and Reveal, its digital twin, have striking dark red and comforting yellow bands divided by golden rays. They’re used to represent suffering, joy, and enlightenment, respectively and inseparably, three states experienced by all living beings in every moment, when mindfully contemplating them. Rebel and Rejoice were both developed digitally, the former with a burning theme that encapsulates outrage in the face of injustice, and the latter with a light and dark contrast that points to the equanimity required for us to emerge from the torments of ardent thoughts and emotions that coexist and rage in each of us.

Horses: they are like us. Neither perfect, nor completely centered. Unique but interconnected. They may give an impression of freedom and realization or rootedness and stasis, with two legs in motion and two that blend into separate bands of suffering and joy (red or yellow, black or white). They bring together a sense of origin and sense of direction. They glance ahead towards the viewer with the reflection of the Noble Eightfold Path in their eyes, an allusion to the Right View and the notion that we are the microcosm of the paradoxes around us.

May we take strides in their guiding light.
